Janet Pocorobba's book expertly weaves together memoir, music, and Japanese culture. Through the prism of a long relationship with her shamisen teacher, the author introduces us to many nuances of Japanese cultural and inter-personal precepts. It is an excellent one-foot-in-two -worlds memoir.
This memoir delves into the complex relationship we all have with past mentors/teachers. The author skillfully weaves Japanese culture, tradition, and history with the context of relationships and music.I love this book. It is a page turner: storyline, engaging characters, and beautiful writing.
